Femtosecond laser processing of advanced technical materials

چکیده

Ultra-short pulsed laser ablation may be used for high-precision machining with very low thermal influence on the processed materials. Due to this reason, lasers are increasingly processing of advanced materials, such as titanium alloys, nickel-based alloys or steel, every year. In study, four technical materials were analysed and compared under femtosecond irradiation three different wavelengths. The main laser-material interaction parameters identified, namely threshold removal efficiency parameters. Higher rates found Ti6Al4V alloy all harmonic To increase process productivity, a method increasing repetition rate scanning speed was presented. With maximum rate, productivity increased five-fold similar removed depth surface quality. Finally, suitability identified regard quality demonstrated fabrication two complex structures – honeycomb dot which has potential improve friction properties

Materials processing with a tightly focused femtosecond laser vortex pulse.

In this Letter we present the first (to our knowledge) demonstration of material modification using tightly focused single femtosecond laser vortex pulses. Double-charge femtosecond vortices were synthesized with a polarization-singularity beam converter based on light propagation in a uniaxial anisotropic medium and then focused using moderate- and high-NA optics (viz., NA=0.45 and 0.9) to abl...

Femtosecond Laser Processing of Nitinol

The effects of femtosecond laser machining on surface characteristics and subsurface microstructure of a Nitinol alloy were studied. The femtosecond laser machining produced an average surface roughness of 0.2 μm. A re-deposited layer of 7 μm and a hardened layer of 70 μm were also resulted from the machining.

Simulation of microscale densification during femtosecond laser processing of dielectric materials

It has been demonstrated that femtosecond laser pulses can be used to process dielectric materials such as optical glass. One of the applications of this process is to produce subdiffraction-limit structures whose index of refraction is different from that of the host medium. Due to the small size of these ‘bits’, it has been proposed to use this technique for high-density optical data storage....

Thermophysical effects in laser processing of materials with picosecond and femtosecond pulses

Application of picosecond and femtosecond laser pulses to the controlled ablation of materials represents a relatively unexplored yet important topic in laser processing. Such ultrashort pulses are of potential value in areas of thin-film deposition, micromachining, and surgical procedures. We report here some early results of systematic studies being done from the femtosecond to the nanosecond...
